I knew we lived in a beautiful state but little have I ventured out to see the sites. Mostly because of not knowing were to go, or thinking that I had to go far. This is so not the case. Thanks to some new life long friends (FCP's) I have found that the Turnagain Arm is not only a fantastic view, but if you actually get out of the car and walk around you can find some spectacular spots.
After a quick stop at the Wildlife Convention Center out near Portage, we stopped at a familiar location at the Chugach National Forest sign. Its a little past Girdwood, and if you drive too fast (like I do) you just might miss it.
The area is surrounded by the Kenai Mountains, Portage Valley, Anchorage and the Chugach Mountains. The view is to die for.
We stopped to take some landscape images and to listen to the ice flow by. As we were climbing around in the knee high snow, I noticed my daughter Nikki becoming bored and a little irritated that we were taking so long. So my attention turned to her and I asked her if she wanted to make a snow angel and I would snap some images of her. The snow was so deep that 1.) she sunk in so deep that I couldn't see her, and 2.) I myself was knee deep and too short to see over her buried in the snow. The next idea....Jump into the snow. And not just jump... FLY!
The images speak for themselves - do you think we had fun?
